You know the feeling - you're in the car and you slam the door. The sound of a door slamming should preferably be subdued and without vibration - then you know you're dealing with a "quality car".
B6 Heavy layer Damping mats, effectively removes the unwanted vibrations in steel plate constructions. The sound experience is improved by damping materials that absorb vibrations (absorb vibration energy), leaving a steel plate that no longer makes noise.
There are several types of Heavy Layer Damping Mats, for different applications. We offer, e.g:

- Rigid Damping Mats (LYF BI: Rigid Sound Films - from 3-10 kg/m2)
Areas of application
Typical areas where B6 Heavy Layer Damping Mats are used include:
- At the bottom of vehicles
- In bonnets
- In metal doors
- In dishwashers (white goods in general)
- Under metal sinks
Rule of thumb for thickness
A good rule of thumb for a 1 mm steel sheet is to use 1 mm Damping Mat sheet. For a 2 mm steel sheet, one should use 2 mm Damping Mat sheets, etc.
Rule of thumb about quantity
To achieve maximum effect, you should mount on your steel sheet a Damping Mat area that corresponds to at least between 10-20% of the steel area.
Most people choose to mount a Damping Mat on their steel sheet to reduce vibration.
An alternative would be to glue on a sheet of B6 Comprex foam, which both insulates sound but also absorbs vibrations to some extent.
